If someone had asked you a few years ago whether slip dresses would make a comeback, you probably would have rolled your eyes. We can’t say we weren’t surprised that this is one of the iconic (and sometimes controversial) styles to come back around with the recent 90s throwback craze. Imagine my delight when I saw slip dresses start to grace the pages of my fashion magazines, realizing I had the perfect on-trend piece already hanging in my closet.
I purchased this dress while visiting New Orleans for a wedding two years ago. As you may know, we try to thrift shop on every vacation, and this was my souvenir! It’s actually from Banana Republic, but based on its cut and the placement of the straps and slit, my guess is it’s from the late 90s. That also explains why I discovered it in an antique store!
Another fun fact about this dress, is that I’m actually wearing it backwards in these pictures. I wanted to go for a more modern look, mimicking the plunging necklines of other popular maxi dress styles. With thrifting, it’s always a good idea to keep an open mind and get creative, especially when you see the potential for an old piece to be worn in a new way.
