No one really ever needs an ethereal 1970s prom dress, but at flea market prices, there isn’t really a reason not to get an ethereal 1970s prom dress. Not enough room in the closet? Nonsense. No real reason to ever wear it? Whatever. As thrifters, we’re committed to having fun with fashion. We were passionate about playing dress-up as children and not much has changed. (We even thrift period costumes).
When I saw this dress the first thing I thought of was the photoshoot featuring Elle Fanning in Vogue last May. The dresses she wore were unapologetically feminine and romantic, which is exactly how I feel when I wear this dress. The small floral print is endearingly delicate and the lace adds the elegance of a bygone era. I hope whoever originally wore this dress to prom or as a bridesmaid enjoyed it as much as I do.
