For the next series of posts, we’re teaming up again with our local Goodwill stores to bring you our thrifted take on fall layering. The key pieces in these looks are sourced from two stores in San Francisco: Haight Street and the West Portal Boutique. Nothing makes layering for fall easier than a good coat. If you’re a coat addict, and we know some of you must be, then Goodwill has you covered (get it?).
The pattern on this coat is the star of the show with this outfit. Which is why I deliberately kept the rest of the outfit simple and neutral. It’s our belief that every fashionista should have at least one statement coat in her closet. That way when the daytime lows start to dip below the 60s, you won’t have to worry about a drab coat covering up your outfit. The coat is the outfit! Even better when the coat itself is super soft and fuzzy, like this one. Plus what says “fall” more than plaid?
Opting for a skirt instead of pants is a great way to up the flirty factor for a look like this. While it’s hard to see (somewhat deliberately, see above), I’m wearing a body-con knitted skirt in these pics. Finding the skirt at the West Portal Goodwill Boutique confirmed some rumors we had heard recently regarding an increase donated items made by a certain designer with a very presidential last name. The name on the tag clearly bothered someone else, but not us! Especially with that original tag still on the skirt, plus a Goodwill tag with a number a fraction of the original price.
